Survey of Minnesota Logging Operators in 2004
This report presents the results of a survey of Minnesota logging operators completed in December 2004. Survey results will inform the baseline evaluation for the Vital Forests/Vital Communities initiative, as well as the design of new Minnesota Logger Education Project curricula, part of a Blandin Foundation funded effort to strengthen Minnesota’s logging industry. Where pertinent, results were compared to findings from two previous surveys of Minnesota’s logging industry.

Vital Forests/Vital Communities Credibility Survey
As part of the Vital Forests/Vital Communities initiative, the Blandin Foundation seeks an understanding of its credibility in undertaking the effort and an assessment of stakeholder views of progress made to date. The first review was done late in 2003; this paper summarizes the second review done in 2004.

Family Forest Land Management Research Projects
A key objective of the Vital Forests/Vital Communities initiative is to increase the number of acres of family owned forests in Minnesota under the guidance of actively implemented forest management plans. Based on input from the initiative’s Advisory Board, Blandin Foundation has contracted two research efforts to identify promising practices and approaches.
